As part of San Mateo County Parks program to improve forest health and reduce risk of wildfire in parks near private dwellings (also called the wildland urban interface) we are working in partnership with CalFire to remove hazardous unhealthy Monterey Pines, other non-native trees, and invasive plants in an 18-acre area near the Pillar Ridge Complex at Pillar Point Bluff. This is one of 32 projects to be competed over five years throughout San Mateo County Parks.
Update
Crews visited the area in August & October—December 2023, and returned in January 2024, using hand tools and mechanical equipment to remove large trees, and chippers to reduce smaller trees. Chipped material has been spread to reduce weed growth. From February 13 through March 1 in 2024 crews worked to reduce invasive growth of invasive oxalis.
